The Black Bear of Sakkashita was the guardian of the scroll that held the secret location of the fortress of White Beard.
According to one intrepretation, Takezo Kensei and Hiro found the bear, killed it, and obtained the scroll. In reality, Kensei underestimated the bear, with the cub holding the scroll, the adult was hiding behind a large rock. The bear chased Takezo off over the horizon while Hiro grabbed the scroll from the cub.
