Plot summary[]
In the future, Peter searches for a dangerous power and tries to outrun Claire, while in the present Mohinder becomes acquainted with unpleasant side effects of his new powers and Hiro and Ando attempt to work out their differences.
Plot[]
The episode opens with narration from Mohinder's recorder dictating his 12th journal entry recording his transition after injecting himself with the formula. He wakes up at his desk in his lab, which used to be Isaac's loft. We hear an argument from his neighbours which appears to be escalating. Mohinder decides to intervene and when confronted by the racist neighbour he slams his head into the door frame causing the neighbour's wife to beg him to leave. He walks away solemnly,
Tracy questions Dr, Zimmerman who explains that the triplets, Nikki, Barbara (Jessica) and Tracy were genetically modified to have supernatural abilities, such as superstrengh (Nikki) and he asks her which she is experiencing, He admits that they were arrogant to create such a formula but does not want to give to much information. He tells her there was a company but can't remember the name, Tracy loses her temper and nearly kills Dr. Zimmerman when she freezes his arms. He apologizes for his part in giving her the power.
Matt, goes on a spirit quest with the Shaman to find out how to save the woman in his painting,
"Four years into the future" Present Peter is with Future Peter in the future. Future Peter shows Present Peter the synthetics, people who gained powers through an injection, either bought or stolen. The synthetics destroy the world as they become responsible for a new war. Future Peter tells Present Peter that he needs to stop it. Present Peter asks Future Peter why he can't stop it, he explains he is seen as an extremist, a "villian" and that he made too many mistakes and stepped on too many "butterflies" admitting that traveling in time is dangerous. Future Peter tells Present Peter they need to find Sylar, as his ability is the only way to stop them from making the same mistakes. Present Peter demands to see Nathan, Claire and Suresh (Mohinder) but Future Peter tells him that they aren't the same people he remembers, That some people were made by the formula, and a line was drawn between the natural evo and the synthetics. Future Peter is shot by Claire, Present Peter runs and narrowly escapes the Haitian, Future Peter dies as the Haitian keeps his healing powers from kicking in.
Claire (now with brown hair as she wants to appear more bad -ass) tells the hunters about the younger Peter from the past as they stand around the deceased body of Future Peter, The decide to use Molly to track Present Peter's location. They remind each other of the President's directive to kill Peter Petrelli
Hiro and Ando are stuck in a cell in Level 2 and argue about their choices. Senator Nathan is standing in his office with his assistant deciding on a historical desk, the imaginary Linderman chastises him for not listening to his advice, Linderman tells Nathan he needs him to become President so that they can save the world. Nathan does not want to work with him and walks away.
Back in the lab Mohinder and Maya talk. Mohinder is struggling with the side effects of the formula and loses his temper with Maya causing her to leave. Mohinder makes another journal entry, afraid of the monster he is becoming. In the future, Present Peter enters the lab vaguely hearing the recorder replaying the entry. Present Peter ask Mohinder for help finding Sylar. Mohinder hydes in the shadows, Present Peter is unaware of his mutation. He keeps his face hidden and rapidly moves through the lab, startelling Present Peter, Mohinder explains what happened when he attempted making a formula to give himself powers and begs Present Peter not to make the same mistakes. Present Peter asks about Sylar again but Mohinder tells him not to look for Sylar as his power is unstable and dangerous, Present Peter tells him that he needs to find him to save the world and takes the information from Mohinder's mind and teleports away.
Present Peter enters Sylar's house armed with the flame powers he received from the fugitives and is suprised by a small boy calling him uncle Peter, telling him that his dad is making waffles. The boy's dad happens to be Sylar, making waffles and feeding Mr Muggles (Claire's adoptive mom's dog) He is suprised to see Present Peter and gives him a hug stating that he hasn't seen him in a long time. Present Peter is confused by the behavior of Future Sylar. Future Sylar and Present Peter go into another room to talk, Future Sylar figures out that Present Peter is from the past and tells him that they are brothers. He also tells him that he knows why he is there and will not give him his power. Present Peter tries to take it from him but is blocked by Sylar who asks where Future Peter is, Present Peter tells Sylar that Future Peter is dead and that he told him to go to Sylar and use his power. Sylar tells him that his name is Gabriel and that his power is not just understanding, it's an uncontrollable hunger, it turned him into a killer, a monster, Present Peter explains that he needs his power to understand the variables needed to save the world. Gabriel tells him that he won't condemn his brother to hell. Present Peter then tells Gabriel to pain the future with his ability if he doesn't believe him.
Future Matt is with his wife who is helping him raise Molly and a baby they have together, They are arguing over using Molly's ability to track down Present Peter. They discover that Present Peter is with Sylar in Costa Verde at the old Bennet house.
Gabriel sees the painting of the world destroyed and hands Present Peter his broken watch, he tells Present Peter to fix the watch. Only when he fixes the complexity of fixing the broken watch will he understand Sylar's power. Once Present Peter has completed the task and fixed the watch, Gabriel apologizes and tell Peter he gave him his curse, He tells him the watch is a symbol, a scar of the broken pieces in his past, Little Noah calls his dad (Gabriel) the hunters found them.
Present Peter and Gabriel are confronted by Daphne the speedster (now married to Matt), the fugitive that tried to kill Noah and dark Claire. Holding little Noah captive Claire tells Present Peter that he will only let the boy go when they are dead (Present Peter and Gabriel) and a fight ensues. Present Peter knocks down Claire and is attacked by Daphne, the hunter attacks Gabriel, using his fear to get stronger, The hunter uses little Noah's fear to grow stronger and throws Gabriel into the table where the little boy is hiding, killing Gabriel's son. Daphne and Peter stop fighting, seeing the grief and rising anger as Gabriel becomes Sylar once again and kills the hunter. The radioactive powers he took in Season 1 become unstable, Claire tries to shoot Gabriel but he explodes levelling everything
Hiro and Ando are trying to escape Level 2, putting aside their differences and working together. Tracy tries to confess killing the reporter but becomes emotional and freezes the phone. Mohinder is still trying to reverse the side effects of the formula when he is attacked,
Tracy quits working for Nathan and Linderman tells Nathan he has to help her. Tracy tries to kill herself by jumping off a building but is saved by Nathan. Tracy shows him her powers and they kiss.
The nation mourns the loss of Costa Verde and Present Peter wakes up next to Future Peter, his powers are dimmed as Claire begins torturing him. President Nathan arrives and tells Claire to stop, He sets Present Peter free and tells him he can't save the world, President Nathan tells him of a evo army that will save the world. Present Peter reads Nathan's mind but because of Sylar's powers and curse he digs deeper nearly killing Nathan. He teleports back to the past to speak to Sylar so that he can learn to control the hunger
"Hiro! You son of a..." - Adam's last word before the episode ended.

- The episode title comes from the 32nd line of the 11th chapter of Bhagavad Gita, one of the most influential texts in Hindu philosophy. It is also significant as it was quoted by J. Robert Oppenheimer after he witnessed the first nuclear test in 1945.
