In the ongoing search for self, there are days when we learn something genuinely new. Something uncovered, hidden, that we never knew was there. Something that surprises us. And on that day of self-discovery, the question remains: What kind of person are we? Does the hero, or the villain inside us, win the day?
Overview[]
Future Peter discovers that present Peter (inside the body of the fugitive Jesse) is missing, having escaped with other criminals when Sylar attached Level 5. Present Peter is trying to get back to his family, and stop the escaped criminals from killing anymore people. Noah has to work with an unlikely ally to stop the fugitives. Claire starts her training. Hiro and Ando continue their mission, but with Hiro's powers gone, can they succeed.
Plot[]
Present Peter still stuck inside the body of an Evo named Jesse, makes a call to Nathan to warn him to be cautious of the man with his face and a scar, Future Peter. Angela enters the cell where Sylar is being kept, she loosens his restraint and takes his hand. Angela tell him that she is his real mother, and regrets giving him up for adoption, she tell him she needs his help. Brenda, another Evo with the power to tell the history of a person by a simple touch, is called into the cell by Angela. Sylar now back to being called Gabriel asks what she is going to tell about his history. Angela takes out his sedative drip and tells him that Brenda is there to feed him. She leaves and we can hear Brenda scream as Sylar takes her powers.
Present Peter is still with the fugitives, they have decided to rob a bank a broad daylight. Present Peter tries to persuade them to rather come back at night, but the gang enters the bank and ignores him.
Claire is suprised to see her her father, Noah already getting ready to leave to hunt down the fugitives. She desperately pleads with him to stay in case someone comes back to her them, instead he tells that he called in her bio mom to keep them safe as she is an Evo with fire powers. at Breakfast Mrs Bennet is annoyed to see that Claire is not dressed for school, Clair says she is not going anymore since she is tired of pretending to be normal. Her bio mom tried to explain to Mrs Bennet why Claire is reluctant to go, but Mrs Bennet shuts her down and tells Claire to get dressed for school. Outside Claire's bio mom is having a smoke when Claire puts her things in the car, Claire asks her bio mom to train her, she agrees and Claire plays hookie for the day.
Back at Level 5 Noah is shocked to learn that his "one of them" partner is non other that Gabriel Grey aka Sylar,he refuses Angela at first and says that Sylar is a murderer, Angela in turn tells him that he has a lot in common with his new partner and leaves.
Back in Germany Hiro and Ando have tracked down the speedster Daphne and asks for his father's half of the formula, she says she no longer has it and has been paid for it. Hiro challenges Daphne saying he and Ando will find the other half first. As Daphne tries to speed away she finds out her powers are gone, Hiro tries to teleport and it doesn't work. Confused why their powers are gone they split up to race to find the second half. Just as Hiro and Ando enter the theater, they run into an old "friend" of Hiro, the haitian who stopped Hiro's powers when he travelled to the future.
Back the bank the fugitives are causing havoc while Present Peter (inside Jesse's body) tries to keep everyone calm, two of the fugitives get into a fight and the german ends up being killed. They decide not to leave the bank but wait for The Company's men instead to exact revenge.
Back at Level 5, Angela is still trying to persuade Gabriel that she has his best interest at heart and wants to be a mother to him. She tells him that everything that happened to him is not his fault, his abilities gave him a hunger he can't control and says she has a way to fix it. Noah enters the room and tells Angela to turn on the news he has tracked down the 4 fugitives, Angela tells them Peter is trapped inside Jesse's body. Noah and Gabriel leave to the bank to capture the fugitives,
Matt is still stuck in purgatory in Africa, where he is taken on a spirit walk to find out his part in the new future. Present Peter is discovered when the fugitives figure out he is not the real Jesse, and he is knocked around and beaten. Meanwhile Noah and Gabriel arrive at the bank and take over from the police, Noah puts on a bullet proof vest and gives his gun to Gabriel to enter the bank alone. Gabriel is upset that Noah doesn't trust, Noah tells him to wait outside the bank and wipe the hostages memories so they don't spread rumours about the powers they saw.
Tracy arrives in New Orleans searching for Nikki but finds her dead and speaks to Mycah who uses his powers to help her track down her connection to Nikki, he hugs her and she leaves. Hiro and Ando are still trying to get the formula from the Haitian, they get the case but Daphne steals it from Hiro giving him popcorn instead.
Back in the bank Noah enters and the fugitives let the hostages go free. Noah kneels and begs the fugitives to give themselves up in order to save their secret. They refuse and attack him. Present Peter inside Jesse's body accidentally uses Jesse's power of sound manipulation (sonic scream) kncoking them all to the ground. When Present Peter prepares for another scream, Future Peter stops time and pushes Present Peter out of Jesse's body. When Present Peter confronts him about everything, Future Peter explains that he will have to show him why he shot Nathan and what went wrong in the future. He touches Present Peter's shoulder and they disappear. Time speeds up again and Noha thanks Jesse, calling him Peter thinking that Present Peter is still trapped inside his body. Jesse however smiles and says that Peter is gone. The evo's prepare to attack Noah and kill him. Again Noah tells them to surrender and they won't get hurt. The laugh not knowing that Gabriel aka Sylar has entered the bank. Sylar uses his psychic ability to stop them, when one tries to pull a gun on him, Noah shoots him saving Gabriel. The arrest the remaining 3 fugitives, As Noah is walking one out to the car, Sylar closes the doors and blocks it using his telepathy. Noah begs him not to kill Jesse and take his powers, but Sylar says he can't fight the hunger as he slices open Jesse's head.
Claire and her bio mom enter a container yard to start her training. Her mom locks the door and starts a fire with her hands heating up the container. Claire laughs and says she can walk through fire and not feel pain, what she needs is to learn to fight. But her bio mom heats up the container even hotter and the air inside becomes thin. She taunts Claire asking her how it feels to suffocate, to feel trapped, helpless, like she is going to die. Claire begs her to stop, she asks Claire why she wants to be a hero and Claire cries she wants to help people. It gets even hotter inside the container and Claire falls to her knees, again her mom asks her why she wants to be a hero. She asks her is this what it felt like with Sylar, were you afraid, helpless, trapped? She asks Claire again why she wants to be a hero and Claire cries to hurt him, to hurt Sylar the way he hurt her, The mom stops the heat and they both leave the container. Later in the kitchen they discuss what happened and her bio mom apologized for pushing so hard and tells Claire that it's ok to be afraid and it's ok to just be a 17 year old girl. Claire says she understands and they hug, but Claire is hiding that she plans to go after Sylar at Primatech as she stares at the boxes left behind by Noah
Matt, in Africa watches as the Shamen paints the new future, the painting depicts Matt holding a woman and crying, Matt asks the Shamen what it means, and he says that it is not his future but Matt's. Matt asks the Shamen to help him discover more of this new future so that he can stop it from happening. The Shamen agrees and they enter his hut.
Back at Claire's house, Mrs Bennet confronts Claire's bio mom about allowing Claire to skip school. She explains that she did what she did to keep Claire at home and safe, The doorbell rings and Claire runs downstairs wearing her Cheerleading outfit, she opens the door and one of her cheerleader friends is waiting, she tells her moms that she forgot about the cheer sleepover, and they give her permission to go. Tracy manages to track down Dr.Zimmerman the doctor who deliver her and her sisters, she finds out he is a geneticist that created them all
